  Beijing unveils Olympic symbols for 2008 Games

  The Beijing Olympic Games organization committee released a set of symbols representing each of the sports for the 2008 Games on Monday, one day before its two-year countdown to the opening ceremonies.

  The release ceremony is one of a set of celebrations held by the organization committee to mark the two-year countdown to the Games.

  Olympic pictographs, which were first seen at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, are used as the official marks for the broadcasting, advertising and marketing of the Games.

  The pictographs for the 2008 Beijing Olympics include 35 icons, representing each of the sports in the 2008 summer Games.

  The designs, named the Beauty of the Seal are based on the strokes used for seals, which were widely used in inscriptions on bones and bronze vessels in ancient China some 3,000 years ago.

  Four design institutes were asked to submit designs for the pictographs by the organization committee in March of 2005. The Beauty of the Seal, by the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, finally won out.

  2008年奧運(yùn)會(huì)體育圖標(biāo)還有“拓片”的應(yīng)用形式。“拓片”是把器物上的圖形、文字、紋飾等用墨拓印在宣紙上，能生動(dòng)細(xì)膩地再現(xiàn)器物上的圖文內(nèi)容，其獨(dú)特的形式與表現(xiàn)力，使之成為典型的中國傳統(tǒng)藝術(shù)形式之一。2008年奧運(yùn)會(huì)體育圖標(biāo)的“拓片”形式正是運(yùn)用這一藝術(shù)形式，以強(qiáng)有力的黑白對比，表現(xiàn)挑戰(zhàn)極限的運(yùn)動(dòng)美感。拓片中的運(yùn)動(dòng)造型生動(dòng)形象、呼之欲出，體現(xiàn)了運(yùn)動(dòng)的激情與生命的張力。

  兩家美術(shù)學(xué)院聯(lián)手

  為確保創(chuàng)作出最高水準(zhǔn)的作品，北京奧組委請中央美術(shù)學(xué)院和清華大學(xué)美術(shù)學(xué)院聯(lián)合成立設(shè)計(jì)工作小組，共同對入選的兩套體育圖標(biāo)方案進(jìn)行修改完善。

  修改期間，設(shè)計(jì)小組多次邀請國內(nèi)外專家審看設(shè)計(jì)方案，對設(shè)計(jì)方案進(jìn)行了多次修改。確定最終設(shè)計(jì)方案為“篆書之美”。
