  隨著2008年北京奧運會女子沙灘排球半決賽全部結束，頭號種子、中國組合田佳、王潔經過三局激戰以2-1力挫隊友張希/薛晨闖入決賽，三局比分為22-24、29-27和15-8。田佳、王潔在決賽中挑戰衛冕冠軍、美國著名組合沃爾什、梅特雷納。

  Chinese womens beach volleyball pair Tian Jia and Wang Jie will meet defending Olympic champions Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor of the United States in the final to be held on Thursday. It is the first time for Chinese beach volleyball players to play at the Olympics finals.

  中國女子沙灘排球組合田佳和王潔本周四將迎戰衛冕的奧運冠軍組合、美國的沃爾什和梅特雷納。這是中國沙灘排球選手首次打入奧運會決賽。

  衛冕即捍衛自己的榮譽和王者地位，用英語來表達就是defending champion。而成功衛冕就是defend / retain the champion。Title也有頭銜, 冠軍的意思，因此我們說某人衛冕冠軍也可以說defend the title。

  另外，champion除了表示冠軍、優勝者，還可做動詞表示積極擁護、支持、捍衛，例如：to champion the cause of civil rights（為民權事業而斗爭）； 在口語中，champion還可以表示非常的，如：a champion blunder（大錯特錯）；a champion idiot（大傻瓜）等。
