When I read the papers this morning, I found this little delightful story about long lost love and I thought I should share it with you 我應該和大家一起分享.

Lost love letter 遺失的愛情書信reunites couple 一對戀人after 16 years

A British man and his Spanish former sweetheart 心愛的人 have finally married 16 years after they drifted apart 慢慢分開了, reunited by a love letter lost behind a fireplace 壁爐 for over a decade, reports said on Monday.

Steve Smith and Carmen Ruiz-Perez, both now 42, fell in love 17 years ago when she was a foreign exchange student 海外交換留學生 in southwest England, and got engaged 訂婚了 after only a year together.

But their relationship ended after she moved to run a shop 經營一家小店 in Paris.

A few years later, in a bid to 試圖rekindle重新開始戀愛their love, Smith tracked down 查到了her mother’s address in Spain and sent a letter to her there. It was placed on the mantelpiece 壁爐臺上 , but slipped down behind the fireplace and was lost for over a decade.

The missing missive 書信was only found when builders removed the fireplace during renovation 重新裝修 work.

"When I got the letter I didn't phone Steve right away because I was so nervous," Ruiz-Perez told the Herald Express local newspaper.

"I nearly didn't phone him at all. I kept picking up the phone then putting it down again.

"But I knew I had to make the call."

When they were reunited, it was as if time had stood still 時間停止了, said Smith, a factory supervisor 工廠管理人員.

"When we met again it was like a film. We ran across the airport into each other's arms. We met up and fell in love all over again. Within 30 seconds of setting eyes on each other we were kissing.

"I'm just glad the letter did eventually end up where it was supposed to be," he said, after the couple married last Friday.

After reading this sweet story, I thought about how we communicate love in today’s world.

I must admit it’s been a long time since my last hand written letter. Now, I send people emails and text messages or I would pick up the phone and speak to people.

But I do remember my very first attempt at writing a love letter. I was in my early teens 青少年時期 and I really fancied 喜歡 a boy in my old school. I was already in the UK and he was in China, I wrote a letter to him about my new life in the country and how different everything was. Then right near the end, I slipped in 加入 this short sentence – I really miss you and I hope we can be together. Sadly, it was a one-sided 單面的 love story. It didn’t get anywhere.
